(EBC, 14 September 2015) – The Tigray People’s Democratic Movement (TPDM) has returned to its homeland on September 12 as a result of a series of secret contacts made with Ethiopian security service for a year.

The over 800-member Movement, led by Mola Asgedom, returned to its country snubbing a plot by the terrorist group, Ginbot 7, against Ethiopia and opposing Eritrea’s policy.

Members of the Movement made their way to Ethiopia through Humera and Metema overpowering an Eritrean army, a joint statement issued by the Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service and Federal Police Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce on Sunday indicated.

The Movement leader, who returned to his country holding its full arms and logistics and creating contacts with Ethiopian security service for one year, has paid a huge sacrifice.

Mola, through coordinating his fellow citizens, has played an irreplaceable role by providing information to the Ethiopian government, the statement said.

In addition to overpowering the Eritrean army, the Movement has destroyed their weaponry, it said.

Mola has also made strong efforts to block Berhanu Nega, chairman of the terrorist group, Ginbot 7, from being a leader of the new coalition. It also forced him to enter into Eritrea.

Mola has successfully attained the mission he was given by the government, the statement said.

The Taskforce praised “the Sudanese government’s role in resolving the crisis,” describing it as a “historical role that the people and the Government of Ethiopia will never forget”.

It stressed that the Sudanese forces “strongly responded” to attempts by the Eritrean authorities to hunt Asdedom’s fighters inside the Sudanese territory, adding the latter received all the needed logistical and humanitarian support from the Sudan Armed Forces.
