Petitioning United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Antonio Guterres and 2 others EU keep your promise: prevent another Lampedusa

Just after the Lampedusa tragedy, the European officials promised that desperate people would no longer die at sea in their quest for a more secure life.
The result was an admirable search and rescue operation by the Italian navy called Mare Nostrum (“Our Sea” – the Latin term for the Mediterranean), which – according to the Italian defence ministry – has rescued 150,000 migrants and brought them to a European Union shore where they can apply for asylum.

In October, Italy said it would close a sea rescue mission. Now, Mare Nostrum is being replaced a more limited rescue mission called Triton, overseen by EU border control agency Frontex.
The unscrupulous people smugglers, who base their dirty business on the misery of these refugees, have not emerged because of existing rescue operations provided by the EU or its member states. Rather, their proliferation is due to the systematic sealing of the European Union. It is now impossible for refugees to legally enter Europe. They are forced by the EU to take ever more dangerous routes across the Mediterranean. The advance of the ISIS worsens their situation as they’re bringing together hundreds of refugees on the Libyan coast, ready to be sent out into the fray.

Therefore, please act quickly and prevent another lampedusa!!
